My freelance design process.

My freelance design process remains consistent whether I’m crafting a new brand identity or developing a packaging project. Here are the steps I take…

LET'S START A PROJECT

1. Brief

The first step of my process is creating the brief. This is where we determine your project objectives, market competitors, target audience, and deliverables. If you don’t have a brief, no problem. I will send over a brand questionnaire for you to complete so I can learn more about your business and what you hope to achieve through the design process. We will also agree on the project timeframe at this stage.

2. Research

Next, we dive into research, a crucial step that shapes our design direction. This involves exploring the sector, studying competitors and target audience, and creating visual mood boards for inspiration. It ensures we understand the brief and align our creative vision.

3. Design ideation

Now, the fun begins as we brainstorm creative design concepts that address the brief. I’ll propose a variety of design routes, which we’ll agree upon during the briefing process. You’ll also have the opportunity to see the design concepts in situ, if relevant, which will help bring the brand to life in your mind before committing to a final design.

4. Developing ideas

Once I have sent over the PDF presentation, we can gather feedback and make design amendments. This is a collaborative process; I will work with your feedback, developing concepts until we have a solution that ticks all the boxes. Additionally, this is the time for prototyping and creating printed proofs (depending on the project). I can collaborate with suppliers to assist in completing this step if needed.

5. Delivery

Now that all the amendments have been completed and the brief has been addressed, it is time to provide the final files. This could be a printed physical product or files supplied in various digital formats, depending on the project. The details will be agreed upon and explained during the briefing stage.
