Brand identity for Planet9, an innovative cloud-based energy supplier, who aimed to offer customers complete control on their energy management.

The design challenge

The design challenge was to create a strong brand identity for tech start-up Planet9, the first ever cloud-based energy supplier to offer customers complete control on their energy management. Planet9 was named after the hypothetical ‘planet nine’ in the outer region of the Solar System. If ‘Planet nine’ was proven to exist it would shake things up in the universe, just how Planet9 hoped to disrupt and delight in the energy market. As a result the brand identity needed to incorporate this story into the design while also portraying Planet9 as an innovative tech start-up.

The design solution

The design solution was to create a brand identity that was innovative and honest. The ‘Big Bang’ shape represents energy and disruption while still having a trust worthy and modern feel. A bold colour palette was introduced across the branding and brand communication. Finally a modern and simple illustration style was introduced to represent transparency to consumers. This brand style was carried across white papers, web banners and adverts.
